What is coaching?
Coaching is a non-therapeutic intervention. It is intended for coachees who wish to enhance their performance or improve their work or personal situation. Coaching is not the same as counselling or psychotherapy. It is future oriented - what would you like to happen in the future-, whereas psychotherapy tends to focus on how your past is hindering you.
How can coaching help you?
Coaching can help you finding your OWN answers. Uncover what YOU would like to happen in your life and how to get there.
Coaching is a collaborative process. It is important that you feel you can talk freely and openly, that you are understood, and listened to without feeling judged. It is focused on your personal process and your strengths. This can generate new thinking.
Having a professional that helps clarifying your thought processes and goals can shape your future much quicker than when you have to do it all alone. Reaching out can be hard and it is definitely not a sign of weakness. It might actually be the bravest thing you can do. Remember that many professional sportspeople have their own coach to help reach their goals, so why not you?
We offer a safe, judgement-free and confidential space to reflect on and explore areas of your life with the support of a trained professional.
Can coaching be used for personal and/or professional development?
Definitely! There are many different models of coaching that can be used to further your personal and professional development. We believe in a person-based approach, using science-based tools. This is tailored to your individual needs and context.
How do I find the right coach? Coaching is an unregulated industry...
How will you know that you are choosing the right coach for you? Coaching is a rapidly growing, unregulated industry which means there are no formal requirements for education and ongoing training for coaches. Knowledge and expertise can vary greatly between coaches. Dr Ira van der Steenstraten has extensive training and experience in coaching, along with expertise in the practice of psychotherapy. She has also worked in a variety of settings and in various leadership roles across the world.
It has to feel right when you are choosing your coach. We might have come recommended by a trusted source or be completely new for you.
